All Is Lost Bluray
Big Film, Small Film (HD, 6 min.) - Chandor and the producers on the film discuss how large their crew and sets were despite being a small budgeted film. And yet, to call anything in 'All is Lost' simple, is to be insultingly reductive of a film that takes the notion of survival and shapes it into a compelling examination about one man's relationship with mortality, as well as the relationship humankind has with nature, which, in this case, is seen as dominant and in control. The soft sounds of waves lapping at the sides of the Virginia Jean, the whistle of the wind through the sails, the creak of weary floorboards, all of these sound effects and many more are expertly mixed to make for a transportive auditory experience. Every angle is deliberate and works to keep the spotlight on Redford, even when hes half-drowned by waves or baked by the relentless sun. We watch him fix the damage to the boat's hull, but we also watch as Our Man eventually is stripped of this and other resources and is forced to eventually confront the possibility that he may not survive these increasingly insurmountable circumstances.

In terms of generating a truly immersive experience, the mix here is fantastic in its depth and clarity. The Video: Sizing Up the Picture The 1080p AVC/MPEG-4 encoded transfer does a fantastic job with things like fine detail, texture and color. The 1080p formatting has a strong color palette that highlights both the light blues of the tranquil ocean and dark, inky blacks present in the storm clouds. Gravity at least gives Ryan some other people to interact with at the beginning of the story, and a couple of brief interactions after that, but the man is, indeed, a man alone. A shipping container has collided with the Virginia Jean, a 39-foot ship that is taken on a journey by one man. No more posts. The film is intensely demanding emotionally and physically, which had to have taken a toll on the 77-year old, and Chandor shot much of the film as realistically as possible to help in the process.
